Stacy’s mom has got it goin’ on
She’s all I want and I’ve waited for so long
Stacy, can’t you see you’re just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong but I’m in love with Stacy’s mom
So I’ve kinda disappeared from blogging for a while as bro and sis have taken over a bit (with the exception of my kyonko-love post). The reasons are many (work, mom acquiring a new car and a recent Atlantic City trip) and I kinda don’t feel like going into all of that. I’m back (along with $90 of AC winnings) and ready blurt out my random thoughts once again.
Last week, I’ve stumbled upon CCY’s interesting post on the convenient disappearance of parents in anime over at Mega Megane Moe. That is certainly a solid read worth at least a look (as I am willing once again to prop my fellow anime blogger’s article and thus saving myself from rewriting stuff already said). My thought on it is that anime centered on teenagers and young adults is kinda a given with anime’s target audience often pointed at that direction. It is also makes things alot easier for storytelling since teenagers unsure of themselves often makes a good starting palette for character development. However, anime with the child-parent dynamic is usually a really intriguing element and I kinda wish anime explores it more often. As long as it doesn’t get too angsty (another good article in the anime blogger community).
Also last week, I just had the opportunity to watch True Tears episode 9 (again, I’m behind on my anime as well). And in the various scenes we see her character in this episode, one of the things that I randomly come to my mind: Shin’s mom is quite hot. After reading the non-existence of anime parents post, this has me asking: Where are all the hot anime moms? This is the question I’ll explore somewhat this week.
Below is a list of the anime moms which I find beautiful on both the outside and inside (yes, this post is not all about the fapping). I also included a list of characters which exemplify a motherly figure. This is mainly because I had a hard time thinking of mom characters in anime that made an impact (maybe due the anime I tend to watch?). I’ve decided to take post more along the lines of a list with thoughts rather than traditional psuedo-analysis that you’d find from me (because work has drained most of my ability to think recently). I will say this: Anime has certainly entertained us with plenty of lolis. It’s about time some moms/older women get some loving too (again, +/- the fapping).
Sanae Furukawa (CLANNAD)
While a side character for most of the Clannad TV series, Sanae sure is a fun mom to be around. I find her particularly impressive in how she is so supportive of her wacky husband. Contributing towards the Furukawa family dynamic also helps her small fandom.
Akiko Minase (Kanon)
Arguably the KyoAni/Key mom with the largest fandom (over Haruko and Uraha from Air and Sanae from Clannad) and she certainly deserves it. She’s definitely the easy-to-get-along mom. The kind that will allow your friends to sleep over and watch late night movies while eating ice cream. Just don’t let the dog have too much of her jam spread toast.
Ama Shigure (Shuffle!)
Ama certainly has the kind of fun outgoing attitude like Asa. She is the kind of mom that would take her daughter out to go on a shopping spree. Then would drive along Malibu in a Mustang convertible making passes at some cute guys while trying to set her daughter up with some lifeguard. Tsuchimi’s such a lucky bastard…
Chigusa Sakai (Shakugan no Shana)
Yuji’s mom has made a name for herself in the second season. She just has the women’s intuition clicking. She’s the kind of mom that would give you just enough of a hint to help you get the right gift for your girlfriend on her birthday. Too bad her son is too clueless to stop being put in the doghouse.
Erio’s so freaking lucky. Not only does he get the Fate-mama love, his training partner is quite hawt herself and he’s already playing the childhood friend card. Another Rin, Yuji, Yuuichi, Tomoya and/or Shinichiro in the making? But I’m pretty sure Fate-mama isn’t gonna have her child turn into another Makoto.
Fate T. Harlaown (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS)
Fate-mama is just simply f*ing hawt. We all loved her loli-ness in the first two seasons. But her all grown up character design in the third season is too hard to resist for most of us (arguably the only thing keeping StrikerS from being mediocre). Her compassion towards children to combine with her supermodel-like body is an instant win-win. She is simply a goddess. Unfortunately (or fortunately for those following the doujins), she’s already quite committed to Nanoha.
Haruka Minami (Minami-ke)
Fate-mama 2? Haruka-neesama has that similar aura. She has that solid mix between the older sister/motherly type and the regular high school girl. What has helped her fandom is all the motherly actions that she hasn’t done. Hosaka’s inner mind theatre simply makes Haruka-neesama stand out. Now only if he can actually introduce himself and talk to her. That’ll probably feel alot better than standing there half-naked hugging a fish.
Eruru’s aura is that she makes an excellent wife. Her strong commitment to Hakuoro is her stand out feature that permeates into her actions as a family mom. At the same time, she’s realistic and her love isn’t too over-the-top to the point where her relationship too idealized (Aoi-chan from Ai Yori Aoshi comes to mind).
Yakumo Tsukamoto (School Rumble)
Yakumo can be considered in similar company with the ladies listen above. And while she doesn’t have as many opportunities to express her motherly features, her voice of reason towards her older sister is her defining attribute. Combine this with her Yamato Nadeshiko aura and you can make legitimate case for her to be on this list. Now if only Harima can realize this too.
