The long overdue end of the road…

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

Hi all,

I guess this is it. I’ve decided after a year and some nine or so months to board up shop. The Anime Academy blog officially ends today.

I say it is well overdue. I haven’t written anything all this year and it’s well past the half. Now, I still have plenty of ideas. I just wasn’t expecting to be this busy this year. Between work and family obligations, I haven’t even found any consistent time to keep up with my anime watching and the anime community. I’d often start one or two series only to not finish them. Let alone constructing consistent and coherent thoughts worthy of the standards of this blog (i.e. high school essay level) has been quite difficult. Adding on the my intent to apply to grad school and to buy a house within the next year, I don’t really know how often I’ll keep the blogging up generally.

The co-founder (i.e. my brother) also has quite the obligation ahead of him. While he did graduate from his undergrad, he took on the daunting task of getting his PhD straight from undergrad. And though he is able to follow anime much better than me, he’s got the PhD qualifiers ahead of him and it is probably best not to commit too much time to this (especially it takes quite the push to get him to write in the first place).

Which leaves sis and though she does have college applications ahead of her, she’s the only one consistently following up on anime and is fresh with ideas. But since I wasn’t going to commit to this as much as I used to, I decided to close this down with the intent that she will design and manage her own blog from scratch. This way she has complete control over the theme, design and content without being tied into the pathway that this blog has gone through.

With all that said, you’ll probably won’t hear the last of me. I’ll most likely guest author on sis’ blog when she starts it. Also, I’m hoping to make a more academic ready paper based on some of the ideas from this blog. Hopefully, some journals and/or some academic conference would like listening to a paper on computer science and anime.

I’d like to end by thanking those who came around to this site. I am especially appreciative of those who not only read our work but discussed it with us through comments and emails. I’m personally glad that we made some affect in the anime blogger community. And while the blogging community has changed quite a bit from when this blog first started, it still has some of its well-thought discussion-ready flavor which continues to draw me today.

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite sayings which probably best describes this blog. It originally ended the last volume of the Whole Earth Catalog and was brought to life through the words of Steve Jobs’ 2005 commencement speech at Stanford. “Stay hungry, stay foolish.”

Until we meet again, koneko-chan signing off.

Merry Christmas!

Because wine and cheese Tomoyo is fine too… (Thanks to -kairi- for the awesome vector)

whitehatazn-48.jpgWhat started out as good idea with monthly news stories over the course of 12 days kinda fell by the wayside with dull end-of-year news articles and with tons of holiday cooking (Filipino style). Oh well…

Merry Christmas from your fellow bloggers here are Anime Academy.

From breast-fed to walking – 1 Year Blog Anniversary

And what better way to start celebrating this blog’s bday than with a picture of the lady that gained this blog’s popularity and another hip hop caption…

“She got her own thing
That’s why I love her
Miss independent
Won’t you come
And spend a little time
She got her own thing
That’s why I love her
Miss independent
The way you shine
Miss independent”

I’m quite happy to announce that the Anime Academy blog is now one year old. Woot! *goes carmeldansen*

The X’s and O’s: Even Kyo-Ani is human.

chigaimasu-48.jpgSo.. Long time no hear from me. Hey, I’m a growing college boy with a lot of work, class and lab related, on his hands. I had a post in the works to sum up how I thought about the big scary “R” word (recession), but Bernanke dropped the rate three-quarters, so it appears crisis averted for now.

Anyway, to the topic. I think everyone who wanted to has probably seen Clannad 16 by now, and if not, well, then you can stop reading here, but I’m not spoiling much, if at all, so you might be ok.

I liked the basketball part of the episode. Sure it didn’t really provide much in terms of actual story development, but it was fun and a pretty good change of pace to come out of the Kotomi arc. Watching Kyou make it rain 3-pointers and Tomoya manage the game was pretty sweet. And the game winner.. my goodness. The contact, the miracle heave from his back before he hits the ground, the kiss off the backboard, that “shooter’s bounce” off the front of the rim, and the swish as time expired… classic. You can’t find stuff like that in real life.

Because we can! – Blog Updates

Friday, February 1, 2008

whitehatazn-48.jpgSo today I decided to spruce up the place. I got really sick of the original banner so I decided to put up a new one. This time with our unofficial mascot, Kotomi-chan. At the same time, I decided to change the theme to match the banner which messed up all of the blog’s images because of the smaller fixed-width (stupid free themes). After purging all of the site’s images and re-uploading all of them, I’m actually happy with all the mindless work. The blog seems at least a bit cleaner and better themed. Yay making the most while being cheap.

I plan to add a few more things to this site soon. This blog seems to be coming together finally. So far my biggest issue is trying to get bro off his lazy college student butt and getting him out of his anime posting slump since the Pachelbel rant. So far the advice from Impz’s helpful collaborative blogging post isn’t helping as much because… BRO IS SUCH A COLLEGE BUM!

Oh, by the way… Thanks. To have gotten to this line means that you like us sooooo much that you were willing to spend two minutes of your time to read by far one of the most useless posts on an anime blog… or you were really really bored. I’m hoping for the first. Thanks anyway. Peace out…

Chigau’s “On Tap” For Winter 2008.

chigaimasu-48.jpgHappy new year, blogonauts. Along with the new year, let’s celebrate the new television season! Hooray! I’m going to guess that no one was as stoked as I was that they brought back American Gladiators. Winter 2008 is going to be awesome.

Fall 2007 Carryovers:

Ok. All kidding aside now. Let’s talk anime. With the new season comes new anime, but first, let me see what I have carrying over from Fall ’07:

Dragonaut: The Resonance – Seriously, I thought this was going to end in one season. Looks like my review will have to wait for now. Not big on it right now, we’ll see if it can get turned around, or if it’ll confirm my beliefs. I will sit this through for as long as I can, just for the review.

Seriously, you’re so annoying. The quicker they get rid of you, Kazuki, the better I’ll feel about Dragonaut in general.

Fall 2007 Wrapup and Winter 2008 Look Ahead

Friday, January 11, 2008

whitehatazn-48.jpgJust a quick post on the ending of the fall 2007 season and the startup of the winter 2008 season as it applies to this blog…

Fall 2007

With the fall 2007 season ending, some one season series ended and some multiple season series still continue. For me, I was following four fall 2007 series that ended:

  • ef – a tale of memories
  • Genshiken 2
  • Minami-ke
  • Myself; Yourself

As one of my favorites from the previous fall season, ef surprised alot of people with its execution. Even though I can see this kinda hard for some anime fans to truly appreciate, it is at least a watch for most.
